We are all immersed in sound. The quake of a thunderstorm, the hush of the wind across fields of grass, the menacing roar of an engine, the monotonous hum of a fluorescent light-everything around us is producing sound. Our bodies are constantly vibrating, receiving the vibrations of our environment and transmitting sounds out to the world around us. Modern science has found every aspect of the universe to be in a constant state of motion, from every whirling galaxy down to the infinitesimal spinning electron. Everywhere there is movement. Everywhere there is vibration. Everywhere there is sound.
The world's wisdom traditions have told us this for centuries. The Hindus refer to this movement as the universal, omnipresent vibration, OM. Nada Brahma-sound is God. In John I we find "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God"; this fundamental sound is the creative aspect of the Divine.
Sound is such a powerful essence in this world, and it can move us in such profound ways, yet most of us do not realize its potential to heal and assist us in our lives.
